Buried Silo Game

BuriedSiloGame is based on the world of Silo (Apple TV+), originally based on the Wool trilogy. This article might give a rough idea of the world of Silo.

The game is a 3D multiplayer immersive-simulation roleplay game focused on department mechanics, social interactions, responsibility, and politics. Physical violence plays a minor role.

The world is an underground silo that cannot be left, so there is no outside world to explore. Vertical traversal is discouraged, and lower floors correlate with lower reputation. The concept can be compared with Snowpiercer, but vertical.

What Answer Explanation
Target platform PC only Gameplay is not compatible with other platforms
Player count 25-100 per server, single server is viable
Target audience Adults Contrary to Space Station 14, the gameplay will be less chaotic or random and such won't satisfy an audience who seeks quick satisfaction
Pacing Slow There will be little action. Mostly will be doing the required tasks and responsibilities and social interactions
Camera perspective Isometric or 3rd person Depends mostly on what gives the best overview in tight indoor spaces and benefits the immersion of the roleplay
Round duration ~1 month Contrary to Space Station 14, where rounds take around 1-2 hours, this game aims for more stability while still aiming for a limited timeframe per round

Silo Original Art Style

There is a lot of official concept art for the Apple TV+ series. The biggest source of good reference images is one of the artists who worked on the original series.

Graphics

It will be a 3D, most likely in an isometric perspective. Character model fidelity should be on the low-medium side. Open for a mix between realistic and stylized style, but without getting colorful/cartoonish. Every environment will be indoors inside the bunker. So the graphics should account for that.

Graphic Inspirations

Atom RPG: As obviously a modern clone of Fallout 2, it shows a graphic fidelity as close as it currently is on my mind. In comparison to all other screenshots, this one has the most similar graphic style as currently intended for the project Atom RPG

Fallout 2: Dilapidated, lived in environment. Low character fidelity. Also includes vaults meant for long term survival, same as in Silo Fallout 2

Encased: A Sci-Fi Post-Apocalyptic RPG: It offers a similar theme and graphic style Encased

Gameplay Inspirations

Space Station 13/14: This game is very representative regarding its playstyle, as it is a MMO with a player count between 25 and 60 people and is heavily focused on roleplay and simulation. The graphics and the tone are very different to what this project aims for Space Station 13/14

Foxhole: Also an MMO but with rounds which last longer than 1 month. Player buildable structures and own industry lines with heavy focus on teamwork and logistics to support their own faction. It evokes a similar feeling as intended with this project even though the game is centered around war and fighting. The graphical fidelity seems to be exactly as intended, while the controls might not be suitable for indoor only gameplay Foxhole

Oxygen Not Included: It also features subterranean bases. It provides heavy simulation of solids, liquids and gases Oxygen Not Included

Game Systems

  • Resources: closed economy, limited sinks/faucets, and heavy recycling
  • Politics: social capital and official position shape power and access to resources
  • Atmospherics: breathable air must be distributed and recycled continuously
  • Energy: generation and maintenance are required for all essential services
  • Temperature: environmental control interacts with atmospheric systems
  • Food upkeep: farms must sustain food and water rations.
  • Water pumps: seep-water threats can flood lower floors if unmanaged
